On November 19, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved a new partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense. The agreement supports service members in the Skillbridge Program. The Skillbridge Program allows military personnel within six months of retirement to try a new career path in public service while still employed by the Department of Defense. Under the agreement, Maricopa County has committed to placing at least five Skillbridge interns each year in various county departments.

This partnership builds on previous work with the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, which helped several Skillbridge participants gain valuable experience and, in some cases, transition into full-time positions with the county. Currently, active or retired military personnel make up 8% of the county’s workforce. Maricopa County continues to support veterans at every stage of their careers.
