Community leaders in Maricopa County recently gathered to mark 25 years of protecting the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area. The celebration recognized the milestone achieved through a partnership formed on January 9, 2001. At that time, the State of Arizona, Maricopa County, and the Town of Cave Creek worked together to permanently preserve 2,154 acres of the Sonoran Desert, including flowing riparian areas and sites of archaeological significance.

The agreement was signed by former Governor Jane Hull, Supervisor Jan Brewer, and Mayor Vincent Francia. Since the signing, Spur Cross Ranch has continued to serve as a meeting place for history, nature, and local community. The area now features a fee station and restroom facilities located 200 feet from the main access point, with a fee of $3 per person.
