Maricopa County Unites for Domestic Violence Awareness

Maricopa County officials observed Wear Purple Day today to support survivors of domestic violence and to raise awareness about its impact. Departments across the county are wearing purple to demonstrate solidarity and encouragement for those affected by domestic violence.

Officials reported that in 2024, 61 people in Arizona lost their lives to domestic violence, with more than half of those deaths occurring in Maricopa County.

Individuals in need of help can access local and national resources. Arizona survivors can be reached at arizonasurvivors.org or 1-800-782-6400. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available at thehotline.org or 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).

Local shelters are also supported by donations. Individuals can donate toiletry and non-perishable food items at any Maricopa Library District branch through October 31.

Authorities emphasize that supporting survivors and working toward a safer community in Maricopa County is an ongoing effort.
