Shelters Brace for 4th of July Pet Escapes

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control reports that animal shelters in the area are preparing for an increased need for assistance during the 4th of July holiday. Fireworks and summer storms can startle pets, sometimes causing them to escape.

Officials advise pet owners to keep their animals indoors and to create a safe space where pets can feel secure. They recommend that pets should go outside only when necessary and always remain on a leash. In addition, owners should ensure that pets' ID tags and microchips are current.

Residents are also encouraged to play calming music and provide toys or treats to help keep animals distracted. Communication with neighbors to limit fireworks near homes is another suggested precaution.

Authorities remind pet owners to take appropriate measures to protect their pets during the holiday season.
