Historic Greek Revival Home Restored in Columbus

Staff Report / cbuslocal.org

A historic Greek Revival home located at 103 Franklin Park W. in Columbus, Ohio, was built around 1895 for Oscar F. Willson. At the time, the street was known as Miller Avenue. Willson moved to Columbus in 1852 and established Claypoole & Willson, the city's first wholesale boot and shoe business, which operated for over 40 years. He later served as treasurer of the Buckeye Buggy Co., a notable buggy factory in the area.

Willson passed away in 1899, just four years after the home was completed. The Willson family resided in the house until the death of their last son in 1942. Following this, the residence was sold and transformed into seven individual apartments.

The home has since been restored and renovated, with efforts made to convert it back into a single-family residence. Today, it is recognized as a "commodious and beautiful residence" near the Franklin Park Conservatory, according to "A Centennial History of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio, Vol. 2."
