Columbus Metropolitan Library Launches Summer Reading Challenge
The Columbus Metropolitan Library in Columbus, Ohio, says the Summer Reading Challenge has begun for readers of all ages. Adults, teens and kids can earn big prizes for reading this summer.
Participants can be rewarded after just five days of reading, or keep going through the summer to earn bigger prizes. Raffle entries are available for items such as Columbus Crew tickets, Ohio State Buckeyes football tickets and more.

Read and earn fun prizes this summer. The Summer Reading Challenge runs Monday, June 1 through Friday, July 31. Read 15 minutes a day to earn prizes plus raffle entries for even more prizes. There are programs and activities for babies, kids, teens and adults.

Shooting on SR 88 near Apache Junction under investigation
Apache Junction, Ariz. — A suspect fired from a vehicle Thursday night on State Route 88 near milepost 203, injuring a woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds; no arrests have been made as the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Major Crimes District leads the ongoing investigation with help from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the Apache Junction Police Department.

Maricopa County issues heat-safety alert
Maricopa County Public Health issued a heat-safety release titled "Stop, Sip, and Stay Safe!" noting temperatures are 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit above normal for this time of year and urging people to drink water before they feel thirsty and to avoid caffeine and alcohol to stay hydrated.
