Mayor Hogsett appoints Deputy Mayor

INDIANAPOLIS — Jordan Gathers begins his first week as deputy mayor for neighborhoods. Mayor Hogsett announced the appointment last week.

Gathers comes to Indianapolis after serving as the executive director of Venues, Parks & Arts for the City of South Bend. There, he led the city’s expansive parks system, cultural venues, and public spaces. He oversaw initiatives that supported community vitality, expanded access to recreation, and enhanced quality of place assets.

Gathers is a service-driven leader who brings a deep commitment to expanding opportunities for community members. He will play an integral role in uplifting our neighborhoods and help further progress toward building a safer, stronger, and more connected Indianapolis.

Arizona troopers seize 131 pounds of fentanyl near Gila Bend

A Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 8 near Gila Bend on May 2, 2026, with help from the AZDPS Pinal Narcotics Unit, and seized about 131 pounds of fentanyl (95.7 pounds of pills and 35.4 pounds of powder) with an estimated street value of $511,000, arresting the driver on possession and transportation of a narcotic drug for sale.
