Officer Knutson Killed in Line of Duty
Officer Douglas E. Knutson, badge number 3818, died in the line of duty on January 2, 1998. He was helping a disabled motorist on the westbound Loop 202 near Scottsdale Road when the pickup truck he was near struck him from behind. He was transported to Maricopa County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officer Knutson had served with the Arizona Department of Public Safety for 12 years and was the first AZDPS motorcycle officer to be killed in the line of duty.
