Thanksgiving Eve Safety Tips from Fire Division

Staff Report / cbuslocal.org

The Columbus Division of Fire in Columbus, Ohio, has provided safety tips for Thanksgiving Eve to help residents ensure a safe holiday.

Firstly, it is advised to stay in the kitchen while cooking on the stovetop to monitor the food adequately. Additionally, residents should remain in the home while cooking their turkey and check on it frequently.

To protect children, the Division recommends keeping them away from the stove, as it can become hot. Children should maintain a distance of at least 3 feet from the stove. It's also important to keep kids away from hot food and liquids, as steam and splashes from items like vegetables, gravy, or coffee can cause serious burns.

Finally, the Division urges the need to keep floors clear of obstacles, such as children, toys, pocketbooks, or bags, to prevent tripping hazards.
