**"Lord of the Flies" Challenged in Arizona Schools**

Published in 1954, William Golding’s novel "Lord of the Flies" has faced challenges in several states, including Arizona. One notable instance occurred in 1983 at Marana High School, where the book was referred to as an "inappropriate reading assignment."

In addition, "Lord of the Flies" has been a popular book with over 4,700 checkouts recorded at the Maricopa County Library District (MCLD).

Today marks the conclusion of Freedom to Read Week, which celebrates the availability and accessibility of books. The library hopes to see readers soon browsing its shelves.
